Yesterday I decided to take Izzy, the mutt, out with me in the afternoon on my visits. I have been feeling bad about not giving her the attention and exercise she needs, so I thought this might be a good way to give her some mental stimulation.
As soon as I mentioned the word ‘car’, she was ready to roll. She loves riding in the car!

My furry passenger
Our first stop was Jack, a shy Havanese. He doesn’t get a walk, but that’s a completely different story. I let him out into the front yard, and luckily Izzy couldn’t see him. But then he started exploring, and sure enough, Izzy starts barking. Howling. Embarrassing me. Poor Jack! He did what he needed to do, then went back to the door. I can’t say I blame him.
Our next stop was the bank. Yet another power word in our household. If you say ‘bank’, look out, cause the dog will go nutz! We went to the drive through, and Izzy waited for her treats from the teller. She whines a bit while waiting, but overall not too bad. But she knows. When we pull in, she starts licking her lips.
Our next stop was Wrigley and Berni. Wrigley is a golden retriever, and Berni is a beagle mix. These dogs are so friendly, and again, I have a million stories about them, but that will have to wait. The dogs and I walk past the car and Izzy, and she went crazy. Barking. Howling. Scratching at the glass. Bearing her teeth. It was bad. Very bad. And these two sweet dogs on the leash just wanted to see her. Not a peep from either of them. Izzy was scaring Wrigley, I think. So Wrigley, Berni, and I went about our business. When we got back from the walk, Izzy did the same thing. At this point I’m getting worried about my car’s interior. She better not tear it up!
Our next stop was Maggie. Mags is a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. What a long name for such a small dog! Anyway, Maggie and Izzy know each other, so I walked both dogs. I wouldn’t say the dogs are actually friends, but the tolerate each other. Overall a good experience.
The last stop was Brinkley, an older yellow Lab. She has some dog issues, so when Izzy and Brinkley made eye contact, a huge noise erupted! Izzy is doing her usual howl and scratching, while Brinkley is making her crazy loud howl. Again with the embarrassment. What must the neighbors think?
After yesterday’s experiement, Izzy has earned herself some training time at
First Friend. We have spent some time there before, and it was a great experience. If you are looking for a training facility, I highly recommend them.
Izzy was exhausted when we arrived home. She spent the next few hours in this position:

Mission accomplished!
